Crepe Paper Peony Stem Bundle
This variety is the newest addition to my peony collection, thanks to another one of my Mom’s generous neighbors. I only got one bloom off my plant last year, but it was enough for me to study, document, and build a trusty prototype for my library. (Along with the many stems gifted over the years.) The striking yellow centers of these blooms add a bit of whimsy and cheer to any room, and I get a kick out of how they look with other, more studious blooms.

My Mom’s neighbor brought home a Bartzella Peony plant last spring and was kind enough to gift me with one of its very few blooms of the year. This type is highly sought for its unique bright yellow (with just a hint of red in the center), large double blooms. I brought my stem home, studied it, made lots of notes, and carefully copied its form and distinct color patterns before it wilted. Now that it’s part of this collection, you don’t have to wait a year (or years) to enjoy your own!

I discovered this particular anemone-style peony only a few years ago, and it happened entirely by surprise! The bunch of bright pink buds I purchased at the market opened to reveal an unexpected center of tightly packed cream petals. Not at all what I expected, but what a treat! I would love for this to be a post titled “I’m all healed and back up and running!” but it’s not. I’ll spare you the long-winded recount of my torn tendon, nerve damage, spinal issues, and migraine debacles, and just say that I’ve been a bit through the wringer these past two years, and I’m still working on it. I’ve also been working on quieting the nagging voice in my head telling me I should be making more updates, “keeping up with engagement,” and getting things back to the way things were. And while there are still moments where that voice persists, I no longer feel guilty about ignoring it.
For the past several months, I’ve been dealing with an elbow injury that has unveiled underlying issues with my nerves and spine. This has affected the use of my dominant hand—a tool I rely on heavily—and will require permanent changes to how I work moving forward.
This isn’t the announcement I wanted to make, but sometimes life has other plans. I need to take some time off to rest and allow an injury to heal. Unfortunately, this means I won’t be able to release a Mother’s Day Collection this year. I know how much this collection means, and I’m honored that it has become an annual tradition for many of you! I am truly sorry that I won’t be able to make it happen.
A few months ago, an editor at Richmond Magazine reached out to see if I would be interested in sharing some of my wedding creations for an upcoming article. I asked if I was happy to do so, and then with the hubbub of the holidays, I forgot all about it!
If you’re like me, you’ve just (barely) put away your Christmas decorations, and now things are feeling a bit glum. That’s why I thought I’d start the year with some fun gifts for Valentine’s Day that can also add some freshness and cheer to your home until Spring arrives.

I’m ecstatic to share this year’s holiday collection! I wanted to make sure everyone had options, so this set is full of gifts and holiday decor of all sizes. Here’s a rundown!
Last year, Mother’s Day was busier than ever before—something I hadn’t quite anticipated. This year I vowed that I would launch the collection earlier in March so that I’d have even more time to make as many gifts as possible.
And I made it! With hours to spare! So before all those hilarious April Fools jokes start rolling in, I’m going to make this one quick!
As the first holiday of the year, I wanted to use Valentine’s Day to bring a little optimism to 2021. Winter isn’t my favorite time of year, and I know I can always use some extra help remembering that sunnier times are on the way.
So since I may have ventured a bit beyond the traditional Valentine’s palette, I hope you don’t mind a little pop of color to start your year.
Full confession: I was worried this collection wasn’t going to happen! I had to forgo my Fall collection to keep up with orders, but I just couldn’t let that happen again. Not for Christmas! So while I had designs for about 80 or 90 pieces I wanted to make, I had to restrain myself a bit. But that doesn’t mean I limited the fun. This is the best time of year, after all!
After a slight change in plans, I’m happy to announce that my first fine art piece is currently available to view (or purchase!) at Quirk Gallery!
My piece, entitled A Compendium of Roses, is a part of a more extensive group exhibition called Roses are Red. It features works from artists in varied disciplines and media that incorporate plants, botanicals, flowers, and floral elements.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed an even higher than usual surge in emails about my Paperversary bouquets. I didn’t think anything of it at first. Summer weddings aren’t quite as popular as other as spring and fall, but they’re still prevalent. Nothing unusual. But the recurring dates seemed mysterious.
So I did a little digging and discovered this article: “27 of the Best 1st Anniversary Gift Ideas That Will Make Your Partner Swoon.” And sure enough, BRIDES put my Paperversary bouquets on the list!
Here we go again! Coming off a very recent Perennial Collection relaunch, it seems weird for me to write another blog post on this topic. But, although we all seem to be losing the sense of what day or week or month it is these days, it is that time of year when we cannot forget to celebrate Mom!!
It might seem a bit odd to release a big new collection right now. I have to admit, I’ve held off for the past couple of weeks because I’ve felt conflicted in doing so. There are more critical things to worry about than flowers these days, right?
Like last week, I wanted to share another project that embraced the spirit of the season—and this one surely fits the bill!
For the next few posts, I’ve picked out a couple of Valentine’s Day-worthy projects. These unique bouquets are packed with roses and sweet, romantic details that, while not gifted initially this time of year, feel entirely appropriate for the season!
As I’ve stated in so many of these blog posts, anniversary gifts and wedding bouquet recreations are perhaps my favorite projects of all. I’ve built up quite a catalog over the past two years, and I consider myself a bit of a specialist in this field now. (If there is to be one, then I think I qualify!) Not only do I love to collaborate on a great surprise, but I get the honor to create a meaningful gift that helps two people relive one of the best days of their lives. What could be better?
Valentine’s Day has always been one of my favorite holidays—long before the days when I even had an actual Valentine to celebrate. I remember delivering handmade cards to every one of my classmates. I miss that widespread tradition of Valentine’s giving! Why did we ever stop?
At the start of the new year, I like to do a quick recap of my favorite projects from the past year. 2019 was my busiest yet, so there is a lot to be thankful for and celebrate, starting with my Paperversary clients!
I wanted to start the year off with a fun story from one of my Paperversary clients. As one of the last projects I tackled in 2019, Scott’s email arrived after they had returned from an anniversary trip before Christmas. He started by letting me know how much his wife, Karina, loved her bouquet (always a relief!), and then elaborated on why it was particularly meaningful to them both.
Last but not least, meet Nordic Lights—an homage to the chilly but sparkling days and nights of holiday fun!
Next up for discussion in my new Holiday Collection: Merry & Bright! This look is probably the most traditional approach to holiday decor—a classic bright red with lots of crisp, lush greens. Despite the predictability of this selection, I still wanted to make it feel fresh and use blooms that can be enjoyed at any time of year. Let’s dive in!

What I now consider the prized jewel of my garden, this Charlie’s White plant only produces one or two blooms a year.
